Advanced Features

If you've opened this page, you must really want to get into the details of Slam-In's capabilities, so here's a list of them.  When we say Slam-In can handle almost any competition format, we mean it!

Match Setup

Number of Rounds: 1-6
Number of Teams in a Match: 1-10
Number of Teams in a Roster: Unlimited, with up to 15 players per team
Ring-In Devices per Team: 1-5 (The maximum number of ring-in devices is 50.)
Starting Score: Any positive integer (Our default is 0.)

Team/Player Name & Sound Setup

Ring-In Sounds:

   Standard: On/Off, customizable
   Team-Specific: On/Off, customizable by team
   Player-Specific: On/Off, customizable by player

Other Customizable Sounds:

   Ring-In Time Up
   Deliberation Time Up
   Answer Time Up
   Deliberation Time Up
   Deliberation Timer Alert
   Alert (Plays every X seconds in Team Questions)
   Round Timer
   Timeout Time Up
   Timeout Timer Alert

Round Options

Play as Teams or Individuals (2-40)
Time Outs: On/Off (1-5 per match with customizable names and durations)
Break End-of-Round Ties: Yes/No
Round Name (text field)
Timed Round: Yes/No (with number of minutes field, if yes)

Each round can contain these question types: Toss-Up Questions, Bonus Questions, Team Questions.
(Lightning Rounds are played using 10-part bonuses.  See Bonus Question Options, below.)

Toss-Up Question Options

Question Rules

   Point Value: a positive integer
   Wrong Answer Penalty: Question Value, Custom Value, or None
   Penalty Action: Penalize Team or Reward Opponent(s)
   Early Ring-In Detection: Yes/No
   Auto-Detect Early Ring-In: Yes/No
   Early Correct Answer Bonus: Yes/No (with point bonus field, if yes)
   Early Correct Answer Penalty: Yes/No (with point penalty, if yes)
   Early Incorrect Answer Penalty: Yes/No (with point penalty field, if yes)
      Invoked on First Team Only or All Ring-Ins
      Penalty Action either Penalize Team or Reward Opponent(s)

Timer Settings

   Timed Ring-In: Yes/No (with seconds field, if yes)
   Timed Answer: Yes/No (with seconds field, if yes)
   Computation Time: Yes/No (with seconds field, if yes)
   Non-Timed Reading Mode: Yes/No
   Pause Ring-In Timer During Answer: Yes/No
   Reset Ring-In Time After Incorrect: Yes/No (if yes, to either the original or a custom value)
   Add Time After Early Incorrect: Yes/No (with seconds field, if yes)
   Preserve Minimum Ring-In Time: Yes/No (with seconds field, if yes)
   Display Ring-In Timer Alert Level (at X seconds remaining, turn the timer's background red)

Bonus Question Options

Question Rules

   Point Value: a positive integer
   Bonus Points per Part: 1-5, 8, or 10 (with customizable values for each part)
   (10-part bonuses are used for Lightning Rounds.)
   Play Bonus Parts: 1 part at a time or as a group
   Assign Bonus Control: Prompt, to Toss-Up Winner, or Take Turns
   Enable Bounceback: Yes/No
   Immediate Bounceback: Yes/No
   Answer During Deliberation: Yes/No
   (The "yes" setting is for Lighning Rounds & displays right/wrong buttons during the countdown.)
   Question Sweep Bonus: Yes/No (with points field, if yes)
   (A question sweep bonus is a reward for geting all Lightning Round Questions correct.)

Timer Settings

   Timed Answer: Yes/No
   Timed Deliberation: Yes/No (with seconds field per question or per part, if yes)
   Answer Time - Controlling Team: Yes/No (with seconds field per question or per part, if yes)
   Answer Time - Other Team(s): Yes/No (with seconds field per question or per part, if yes)
   Computation Time - Controlling Team: Yes/No (with seconds field, if yes)
   Start Immediately: Yes/No (if yes, starts rebounding team's answer timer automatically)
   Display Deliberation Timer Alert Level (at X seconds remaining, turn the timer's background red)

Team Question Options

   Point Value
   Timed Deliberation: Yes/No (with minutes/seconds fields, if yes)
   Play Deliberation Timer Alert (every X seconds during the timer's countdown)
   Display Deliberation Timer Alert Level (at X seconds remaining, turn the timer's background red)

Display Options


   Match Manager Background Color: Customizable
   Public Display Background Color: Customizable
   Display Banner: On/Off (This allows you to display a customizable graphic - or an ad to raise funds.)

Additional Play Mode Options

   Ring-In Test Button (which you use any time you want - especially after substitutions)

   Break Ties Pop-Up: In the case of a tie, you can decide whether to end the match or continue.

   Edit Scores Button (launches your computer's Excel app and opens a standard spreadsheet)
